General Groeniger served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Naval Aviator until 1956. After release from active duty, General Groeniger served in a variety of Marine Corps Reserve Command and Staff assignments until retiring as a Major General in 1987.

General Groeniger is the Chairman Emeritus and a Director of Marden Susco, Inc. of San Marcos, California. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1952.

After release from active duty, General Groeniger started Groeniger and Company, which evolved into Marden Susco, a distributor of products used in water irrigation, fire protection and sanitation projects in California and Hawaii.

In addition to serving on the Finance Committee and as a Trustee of the Marine Corps University Foundation, General Groeniger is involved in many civic activities in San Diego County and is a member of the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club. He is a former Chairman of the Board of the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association, a former Deputy Commander of the Marine Corps Aviation Association and is past Chairman of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

He and his wife, Nancy, divide their time between Rancho Santa Fe, California and Indian Wells, California.
