The family of MCUF is saddened at the loss of our good friend and Trustee, Mr. Bradley MacDonald. Our hearts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

Bradley T. Mac Donald was Chairman “Emeritus”, Treasurer and Director of the Board of Medifast, Inc.   Medifast, a publicly traded company, (NYSE:MED) is a leading manufacturer and distributor of Weight Management and Meal Replacement Products to consumers and physicians in the United States.   In 2007, Brad assumed the title of Executive Chairman of the Board as part of the Medifast Board executive succession plan before stepping down in November 2011.  Prior to that, Brad was the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Medifast, Inc., from 1998 until 2007.

While under his strategic leadership, Medifast accomplished the following milestones since the restructuring in 1999:   Improved market capitalization of the company from 5MM to over 200MM while increasing annual revenues from 4MM to over 300MM in 2010. The company has maintained a record breaking streak of 48 quarters of consecutive quarters of profitability after restructuring the company to avoid bankruptcy. Medifast recently attained national recognition from Forbes Magazine being named the #1 growth Small Capitalization Company in America in 2010.  Fortune Magazine recently placed Medifast on its top 10 list of the fastest growing public small capitalization businesses in America.

 He was selected in an independent audit by Ernst and Young, as the “Entrepreneur of the Year” in Consumer Products for the State of Maryland in 2006 in recognition of the company’s superior operating results and his contribution to the business development within the state. He was the Co-founder of the Take Shape for Life health network and the co-author of the book “The Secret is Out, the Medifast Diet, What physicians have always known about weight loss” which is the authoritative book on the use of Medifast products and protocols.

Prior to joining Medifast, he was appointed as Program Director of the U.S. Olympic Coin Program of the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games.  Colonel MacDonald mobilized his unit while serving as Commanding Officer of the 4th Maintenance Battalion to support Operations Desert Shield/Storm, and later returned to active duty as the Deputy Director and Chief Financial Officer of the Retail, Food, Hospitality and Recreation Businesses for the United States Marine Corps.  Prior thereto, Mr. MacDonald served as Chief Operating Officer of the Bonneau Sunglass Company, President of the Pennsylvania Optical Co., CEO of MacDonald and Associates, which was a private equity firm with interests in retail drug stores, a consumer chocolate company, and a pilot sunglass company. 

Mr. MacDonald served as national president of the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association and retired from the United States Marine Corps Reserve as a Colonel in 1997, after 28 years of service. Continuing his public service to the nation, he was appointed by the Secretary of Defense and served on the Defense Advisory Board for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) from 2002 until 2006.

He served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation, was a member of the 2009 class of Leadership Maryland, served on the Board of Trustees of Stevenson University and Merrimack College, served as President and Trustee of the Catholic Community Foundation of the Archdiocese of Baltimore and Member of the Development Council of the Religious Order of St. Augustine at Villanova.  He also was the founder of the Mac Donald Center for Obesity Prevention and Education at the Villanova University Nursing School. Brad and Shirley were married for 40 years and have two children, Kellie and Meg and four grandchildren.
